In a compassionate response to the plight of victims affected by bandits’ attacks in border villages of Sokoto and Kebbi states, the Kebbi Government initiated a relief effort. The attacks had left two villages in Kebbi and five in Sokoto state reeling from violence, forcing residents to seek refuge in Jarkuka village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi.
Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, conveyed the government’s commitment to assist those affected by the devastating bandit attacks. These border villages, which straddle the boundaries of Kebbi and Sokoto states, had been subjected to violence and turmoil.
Governor Nasir Idris took swift action upon learning of the attacks, mobilizing relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of the displaced victims. The relief materials included essential items such as bags of millet, rice, and beans, as well as mats, detergents, buckets, and seasonings, among others. These items were intended as emergency measures to provide immediate relief to those who had been affected by the crisis.

While the majority of the victims were from Sokoto state, Governor Nasir Idris insisted on treating all affected individuals equally, emphasizing the government’s commitment to assisting all who had suffered due to the bandit attacks.
Commissioner Ahmed-BK emphasized that their mission in the village was to ensure the fair distribution of relief materials. He acknowledged the severity of the situation, with numerous displaced women and children in need of assistance. The government considered this initial relief effort as just the beginning, with plans to assess the situation and provide further relief to the affected communities.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Empowerment, Alhaji Muhammad Hamidu-Jarkuka, expressed gratitude to the people of Jarkuka village for their support and hospitality in accommodating the victims despite the economic challenges they faced. He highlighted the ministry’s commitment to providing assistance to those in need, with centers strategically positioned throughout the state.
Both the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Alhaji Sani Aliyu-Kulita, and the traditional ruler of the area, Alhaji Yakubu Maiyaki-Tsamiya, commended Governor Nasir Idris for his prompt intervention in providing relief to the affected communities.
Amidst the crisis, stories of resilience also emerged, such as a pregnant woman who gave birth in the bush while fleeing to safety. The relief efforts aimed to alleviate the suffering of these brave individuals and communities impacted by the unfortunate bandit attacks.
