Police Vow To Arrest Killers of Vigilante Operatives In Anambra

The perpetrators responsible for the deaths of four vigilantes and the critical injuries of two others in the state will be caught, according to the Anambra State Police Command.

Nnaghe Itam, the Commissioner of Police, made the commitment on Monday, according to a statement released by Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.

According to Ikenga, three vigilantes were killed and one unwary bystander was hurt by the armed guys driving an unregistered Lexus 330 SUV and a Honda FJ Cruiser SUV near Ekeagu Abatete.

According to the police image maker, another vigilante was shot and killed, another was injured, and two vehicles were set on fire at Ukpo intersection in the Dunkunofia Local Government Area while evading a fierce pursuit by the Police Responding Team.

The deceased’s remains have been found, according to the police, and the injured are presently being treated at the hospital.

In addition to expressing sympathy for the deceased’s family, friends, and community, the police said they will stop at nothing to apprehend those responsible for the savage act and bring about justice.

The statement also said that the public would be informed of any new developments on the subject.

A dramatic warning has surfaced concerning the upcoming burial of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah (Ebubechukwuuzo Nnewi), a prominent businessman and politician, scheduled for Friday, November 22, 2024. A man, whose identity remains undisclosed, has issued a public statement warning the people of Nnewi and the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, against allowing Ubah to be buried in Nnewi.

In a video sent to Anaedoonline.ng, the man alleges that Ifeanyi Ubah was instrumental in the controversial extradition of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from Kenya. He claims that Ubah’s burial in Nnewi could trigger unrest and escalate tensions in the region, warning that the town could become a hotspot for violence akin to Orlu in Imo State and Orsumoghu in Anambra State, areas currently plagued by activities of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of IPOB.

In the video circulating online, the man emphatically stated; “Ifeanyi Ubah must not be buried in Nnewi. If this happens, Nnewi will become the new Orsumoghu, Orlu (a place overtaken by violence and chaos) Somalia. Biafra Liberation Army will come and live in Nnewi, all of you will abandone your business and runaway. Let him be buried outside the South East. He was used to extradite Nnamdi Kanu to Nigeria and he must face the consequences. If you go ahead and bury Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi, Biafra Liberation Army will come to Nnewi, remove him from the grave and bury him at the evil forest. I am a member of Biafra government, if Ifeanyi Ubah is buried in Nnewi, Simon Ekpa, Biafra Liberation Army will do everything to destroy Nnewi. The people of Nnewi must heed this warning, or face the consequences. Soludo be warned, Soludo be warned”

The speaker’s claim that Ubah was involved in Kanu’s extradition has stirred mixed reactions, with some dismissing the allegations as baseless while others express concern over potential violence.

As of now, neither the Anambra State Government nor Governor Soludo has officially responded to the warning. Security forces, however, are reportedly on high alert to ensure that the burial, planned to take place at Ubah’s family compound in Nnewi, proceeds without incident.

Residents of Nnewi have expressed fears of possible unrest, with many calling for increased security measures. A community leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, said:

“These threats are worrisome. We urge the government to act swiftly and ensure peace prevails. Nnewi has always been a peaceful town, and we do not want it to turn into another Orlu.”

Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, a former senator and influential businessman, passed away recently under circumstances that have not been publicly disclosed. His role in regional and national politics has made him a polarizing figure, and the allegations linking him to Kanu’s extradition have further intensified public scrutiny, However, the Senator has in multiple interviews said he knew nothing about the extradition of Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya.

However, the Anambra State Police Command is expected to release a statement soon, outlining plans to secure Nnewi during the burial.

The situation remains tense as Nnewi and the South East await Friday’s events.

In the Igboro woodland in the Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, troops of Joint Taskforce “Operation UDO KA” have neutralised six alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its affiliate, the Eastern Security Network, or IPOB/ESN.

The Army claims that the clearance operation was carried out in order to seize weapons and ammunition from the terrorist organisation IPOB/ESN and to capture those responsible for the May 30 attack on troops in Aba.

According to Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, the Taskforce spokesman, the successful operation took place on June 8 in Enugu on Sunday.

According to Unuakhalu, troops came across improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the operation’s line of advance, and a fragment caused minor injuries to one soldier.

“The terrorists’ feeble firefight were adequately subdued with superior firepower that led to the neutralization of six members of the criminal terrorists group while others escaped into adjoining bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds as blood stains were seen along their escape routes.

“The gallant troops recovered three locally fabricated Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers, two locally fabricated Artillery Guns with tripod and its bombs.

“Other items recovered included dane guns, Biafran flags as well as Toyota Tundra and Hilux vehicles that were burnt on the spot immediately.

“Also, all of their camps with different inscriptions were destroyed,” he said.

An expert in improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, purportedly employed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Orsu, Ihitteukwa, Orsu Local Government Area, Imo State, has been neutralised by Nigerian Army troops working with other security agencies.

The Nigerian Army Headquarters posted on Facebook that the mission was completed on Thursday.

The post claims that during a clearance operation around Udaah, Identa Ihitteukwa, and Awo Idemili in the state’s Orsu Local Government Area, soldiers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigerian Police, Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies engaged in combat with the attackers.

According to the report, during the operation, the criminal elements fired shots, threw hand-held IEDs, and fired locally manufactured rockets called Ogbunigwe against the advancing forces.

“While the troops advanced, several IEDs were detonated by the terrorists who fled in disarray. One of the dissidents was neutralised, while connecting the explosive to its power source.

“Items recovered include locally made rocket launchers, defused IEDs, pipes, wires and other materials used in the production of explosives and locally made rocket launchers. The troops also covered several ditches used as obstacles on the roads linking the communities by the ESN elements.

“The Nigerian Army will continue to conduct its operations to deter the irredentist from freedom of action,” the statement added.

Governor Charles Soludo received a warning on Wednesday from the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, to quit tampering with the state’s security.

This is as IPOB accused Soludo of being desperate for a second term, hence his choice to cave to pressure from ‘Fulani hegemony’.

IPOB bemoaned the “nefarious activities of the Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen in Anambra State, especially within Dunukofia, Awka North, South, Orumba North, and South Local Government Areas is unbecoming” in a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful.

Anambra State citizens were urged by IPOB to take a stand against all types of insecurity in their state.

“Gov. Soludo must stop the likes of Arthur Eze from endangering Anambrans for his selfish economic interests. We remind Gov. Soludo that politics for a second term must not be played with the lives of Anambra residents.

On the occasion of its third anniversary, the militia branch of the Indigenous People of Biafra, also known as the Eastern Security Network, or ESN, has sent out warnings to vigilante groups, thugs, and herders in the Southeast.

The ESN promised to halt armed Fulani herdsmen from using the area.

The Anambra Vigilante Group, or AVG, was also forewarned by the security team to cease their purported kidnappings of individuals within the state.

In a statement, Emma Powerful, the spokesman for IPOB, called for the dissolution of all political thugs and vigilante groups, including the Ebubeagu militia that Southeast governors had founded.

All accused government-sponsored criminals, car-snatching gangs, kidnappers, and rapists operating in the states of Imo and Anambra were asked to leave their camps by the group.

Parts of the statement reads: “The Fulani herdsmen and their Miyetti Allah sponsors parading around Abia, Akwa Ibom and Igweocha, Anambra, Delta, Enugu, and Ebonyi axes especially at the Lokpanta area must be stopped.

“They are now involved in highway robbery and kidnapping. Most of the highway robbery and kidnap along Enugu- Umuahia – Aba – Port Harcourt Expressway were carried out by these Fulanis bandits. Lokpanta Cattle Market is the main hideout of these Fulanis bandits.

“All the traditional rulers and politicians who are seriously facilitating the resettlement of Fulani herdsmen in our communities should be ready for us.

Nigerian Army Destroys IPOB Camp Where They Allegedly Practice Cannibalism

The Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed affiliate of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and a camp belonging to suspected members of the IPOB were demolished by the Nigerian Army for reportedly engaging in ritualistic cannibalism.

On July 4, the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA II reportedly cleared four notorious camps in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State’s Ihube, Aku, and Umulolo.

According to the Army, numerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were encountered by the forces as they travelled to the camps during the operation. The irredentist, however, retreated into nearby trees with gunshot wounds due to more potent artillery.

“It was discovered that the camps were being used to perpetuate atrocities such as cannibalism, occultic practices and ritual killings to instil fears into the law-abiding citizens.

“These were evident from many fresh and old corpses discovered while clearing the entire camps. Also, the houses of the two spiritual leaders/herbalists (Dibias) that took to their heels were destroyed.”

Amobi Chinoso Okafor’s temple, also known as Temple, “where human sacrifices are being” performed, was destroyed by the Army on Monday, according to a statement from Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II signed by Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu.

The statement read partly: “The Joint Task Force neutralised 2 IPOB/ESN members and four of the criminals were arrested.

“Items recovered from the camps include different denominations of the Biafra currencies, one new power bike, four motorcycles, solar panels.

“Others are POP cements and petroleum tanker suspected to have been hijacked from hard working Igbo owners trying to make a living.

“Operation UDO KA II will continue combating crime and criminality in accordance with the extant rules and regulations guiding its operations.

“All law-abiding and good citizens of the South-East region are enjoined to act against these devilish terrorists by providing timely, credible and reliable information which will lead to ending the menace of insecurity occasioned by activities of the terrorist group in the region.

“Do not be a victim of these sacrilegious criminals desecrating Igboland.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), attempted to attack the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base at Ukwuorji, which is located along the Owerri-Onitsha motorway, but their attempt was thwarted, according to the Nigerian Army.

The irredentist fighters tried the attack on the troops on August 20, 2023, but met their demise when they came under the superior firepower of the watchful troops, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations.

He claimed that one of the fighters was neutralised by the troops, while two more were detained and others fled.

The statement claims that the soldiers found a car, a mobile, a machete, nine empty cases of used 7.62 mm special ammunition, and one empty case of used 12.7 millimetre ammunition.

Another development was the surrender of a Boko Haram member and his wife to the soldiers of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison in Gwoza after tough combat operations against rebels in the Northeast.

The militant from Boko Haram who surrendered to the soldiers had an AK-47 rifle and 10 live rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition, according to the statement.

The statement said further: “In a separate operation on August 21, 2023, troops of 1 Brigade Garrison, operating under 8 Division’s area of responsibility, while acting on actionable intelligence, ambushed insurgents who were on a mission to attack Bobo Village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“In a fierce fight with the insurgents, troops eliminated two of the criminals and recovered two AK-47 rifles and four motorcycles.”

The statement urged law-abiding citizens to assist Nigeria’s military in its efforts to strengthen security around the nation.

The Eastern Security Network (ESN), a militant organisation that advocates for the creation of the Biafra Republic in Nigeria, has been maintained by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist movement.

This was claimed by the group in a news release that its spokesperson, Mr. Emma Powerful, provided to the media on Monday.

The group was responding to charges made by Nigerian security services that IPOB had camps in the forest and that security forces had recently destroyed IPOB and ESN camps in forests in several of the states of Anambra and the southeast.

Insisting that the claims of its presence in the aforementioned states’ forests were false, IPOB argued that any attempt to link the organisation to any purported criminal hideouts would be met with resistance.

He said that the establishment of ESN had prevented the Fulani herdsmen, who had seized control of Plateau and Benue States, from annexing the South East.

“ESN exists to keep the East safe from the ravages of killer herdsmen now plaguing the entire middle belt and people like them.

“Since the launch of ESN by our Supreme Leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU, the main objective of ensuring the safety of farmlands in the East has been accomplished. Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen have had no locus to operate in our farmlands and territory.

“The mischievous mischaracterisation of the activities of ESN that saved the entire south-east and south-south from the murderous onslaught of killer herdsmen now ravaging Benue State and Plateau axis should not be trivialised by attributing any alleged criminal hideout to ESN.

The Eastern Security Network, or ESN, is allegedly being utilised as a means of fraud by the Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, who resides in Finland.

They said this while separating ESN from Ekpa and highlighting the fact that he is not a registered unit member of the security organisation.

It is incorrect, according to IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, to refer to Ekpa as the faction commander of the separatist organisation.

“We have observed with dismay the deliberate moves of some compromised media houses and social media platforms to attribute Simon Ekpa to the membership of the noble family of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“For the purposes of clarity and emphasis, the said Simon Ekpa is not in any way a registered unit member of IPOB, nor is he connected to Eastern Security Network (ESN).

“It is, therefore, imperative that media houses are appropriately guided to reflect this reality in their publications, henceforth.

“Those referring to the said Ekpa as a factional leader of IPOB are either misguided, ill-informed or playing the script of DSS, who are his main sponsors with the main agenda to destabilize the South East with the use of criminals.

“Ekpa is unknown to ESN. The fact that he has been using ESN’s name to dupe gullible people through his endless fundraising schemes, does not in any way link him to ESN formed by IPOB.
