Boxing is most people’s favourite sport. If not the number one, it is up there in nearly everyone’s top three. The little snag here is that most people who love boxing do not even know it. This is because they are always looking for boxing in the wrong places. The Keke rider and a tout, a frustrated Arsenal fan and the person who stepped on his foot after a dismal Thursday, a market woman and a uniformed tax-collector, all.
We love seeing scuffles, brawls, roughing and tumbling, and all forms of commotion that won’t hurt us.
We love fights. We love boxing, just that we are not used to watching packaged ones.
This is what Holly Rock Promotions USA via Heritage Boxing Entertainment has set out to do – package your favourite pastime into a formal boxing competition and bring it to your doorstep.
On Sunday, May 23rd, 2021, Anaedo Hall, Nnewi would be set ablaze when boxers from Nigeria and across West Africa and America hit the ring.
When Nnewi gathered for boxing competition in the past
The event, tagged SummerStorm, starts by 1 pm when semi-pro and amateurs would take to the ring and slug it out.
By 3 pm up to 4 pm, the Heritage Boxing Entertainment (HBE) Hall of Fame would be inducted.
From 4 pm to the rest of the evening, the international professionals would take to the centre stage and fight it out for the HBE International Boxing Championship.
Some of the biggest names that would grace the ring include Saliuos “Zoss” from Senegal, Keith Lofton from Atlanta. Georgia, United States of America, Mohammed Sadja, and Mousa Sahabi from Niger Republic, etc. Our own Dike, Chinedu Okeke, who holds the title of Light Middleweight Intercontinental Boxing Championship would also be in the ring to display the stamina and skills that won him the title he has held since 2018.
To complement boxing, the organizers made available side attractions with the presence of the musician Double Silencer who is one of the fastest rising artistes from the Southeast, the comedian Ogbuefi I Go Talk, and flamboyant and popular man of God, Odumeje.
This is not the first time a boxing competition would be hitting Nnewi. The last one was held in January 2021 and was hosted in the same Anaedo Hall. This one promises to be hotter than the first one, the promoters of the show assure us.
