Ikedi Ohakim, a former governor of Imo State, has distanced himself from a viral tape alleging that he served as a conduit for the payment of $1 million to Senator Athan Achonu, the party’s (LP) candidate for governor.
According to news sources, Hope Uzodimma, the current governor, is said to have used Ohakim as a conduit to provide Achonu $1 million so he can win the Labour Party nomination. This information was revealed in an audio that surfaced on social media sites.
Recall that Achonu won the LP’s nomination for governor last week. A rival candidate is appealing the results, claiming irregularities.

Ohakim referred to the accusation as false and criminally defamatory on the alleged tape.
“My attention has been drawn to a viral audio claiming that HE. Gov Hope Uzodimma used me as a conduit to disburse $1m to Sen Athan Achonu, the LP guber nominee. This audio is false and criminally defamatory, and I’m taking prompt steps to bring the known creator to book,” Leadership quoted Ohakim as saying.
