Candidates who took the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) can now obtain their results in addition to their certificate, according to a Monday announcement by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
On Monday in the Press Briefing Hall at the WAEC National Office in Yaba, Lagos, Anaedoonline.ng learned that the examination board had made this disclosure through the National Officer, Patrick Areghan.
Out of a total of 1,613,733 students who took the exam, 262,803 candidates’ results are reportedly being withheld “due to reports of cases of examination malpractice.”

A total of 1,361,608 candidates, or 84.38 percent, got credit or above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language or Mathematics, according to Areghan, indicating an improvement in the pass percentage for candidates.
Additionally, 1,287,920 candidates—or 79.81 percent of all applicants—obtained credits in at least five disciplines, including English Language and Mathematics, and above.
He said: “I am happy to announce that candidates who sat for the 2023 WASSCE and have no pending issue can assess their results, including their certificates.”
