With regards to cases of attacks by law enforcement agents on journalists, members of the Nnewi division of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha brigade), today attacked and extorted money from a reporter attached to Anaedo Online, Mr Rex Kenechukwu while carrying out his official duty of reporting events around town.
The group which came in a white bus, stormed the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, chasing away traders who displayed their wares along the major road.
However, trouble ensued when Mr. Kenechukwu was accosted for taking pictures of the activities of the group. Despite brandishing his identity card, he was forced to delete the pictures taken by him and furthermore some amount of money was extorted from him by the foot soldiers, who accused him of taking photographs of their boss.
The group which was established to maintain cleanliness in several parts of the state has been under intense criticism from members of the public for their arbitrary display of power and coercion in the discharge of their duties, and there is yet to be seen any sign of caution from the government of the state.
