EXCLUSIVE: NZUKO ORA NNEWI FINALLY LAYS ITS ADOPTED MOTION ON ROTATION OF HOA TO REST

Nzuko Ora Nnewi has officially laid to rest its controversially adopted amended motion, which increased the term for Nnewi’s seat at the Anambra State House of Assembly from a single tenure of four years to two continuous terms for each quarter, starting with Umudim Nnewi. An ammendment which gave room for the incumbent representative, Hon. Amala Anazodo to seek a second tenure.

The adopted motion which was approved and adopted at the general meeting of Nzuko Ora Nnewi on September 3rd 2017, became a subject of controversy in Nnewi polity ever since it was adopted into law, with many stakeholders and citizens calling for its cancellation.
Earlier on in March 24th 2018, at a meeting held at Igwe’s palace by the leadership of Nzuko Ora and Nnewi Stakeholders which had in attendance the Igwe himself, the four Obis and all major stakeholders in Nnewi polity, it was generally agreed that the Nzuko Ora should rest its adopted motion, okaying Nnewichi to represent Nnewi at the House of Assembly.

The earlier decision led to the emergence of different aspirants from Nnewichi vying for tickets in their various parties.

Not sooner was this decision made than rumours started circulating about the incumbent still being in the race despite the decision of the Igwe and Nnewi Stakeholders insisting that it is the rightful turn of Nnewichi. With Amala Anazodo still in the race, a great controversy arose within Nnewi polity on whose turn it is actually. Furthermore, the rested controversial executive motion that increased the single term for House of Assembly to two continuous terms for each quarter starting with Umudim Nnewi started circulating within different social media platforms.

Nzuko Orah Nnewi, through its spokesperson Augustine Ikedoji maintained that the amended executive motion is the position of Nzuko-Orah thereby nullifying the position of Igwe that Nnewichi should represent Nnewi at the HOA. Ikedoji in an interview granted to Anaedoonline.com stated that Nzuko Ora being the administrative head of Nnewi, authenticating its position as greater than that of Igwe Nnewi.

The unclear stand of Nzuko Ora and the controversy its decision was causing in Nnewi polity led to the summoning of the second meeting between the leadership of Nzuko Ora and Nnewi stakeholders at the Igwe’s palace on September 8th 2018 to actually know the position of Nnewi on the zoning agreement; between Umudim or Nnewichi, who should represent Nnewi at the State House of Assembly.

At the end of the meeting, a final decision was made that Nzuko Ora Nnewi should disregard its executive motion in order to allow Nnewichi take its turn, and that a committee be set up to review and adopt the current rotation formula which does not allow an incumbent representative to seek for re-election.

Based on the outcome of the second meeting, the leadership of Nzuko Ora Nnewi therefore resolved that:

1. That the proposed amendment or purported amendment is unpopular, divisive and unacceptable to a wide variety of Nnewi people for various reasons and thus should be discountenanced, jettisoned, and cancelled for now.
2. The adoption of the Executive Motion on Sunday 3rd September, 2017 was in the circumstance null and void and of no effect as adequate consultations were not made and enough opportunity given for building of consensus, which is Nnewi’s traditional and customary way of taking decisions
3. Accordingly, that the status quo, prior to the presentation of the executive motion and its alleged adoption shall remain in force and binding on all quarters of Nnewi
4. It is therefore declared that the election for the State House of Assembly seat of Nnewi North State Constituency for 2019 elections is the turn of Nnewichi Nnewi to produce and provide the candidates for the said election in all the parties in accordance with the resolution of Nzuko Ora Nnewi dated Sunday, 2nd May, 2017.
