Breaking: Smart delivers acceptance speech, calls for total support

The winner and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the just-concluded primary election for Nnewi North at the Anambra State House of Assembly Nonso Okafor (SMART) has accepted the nomination of the party.

Smart who made this known in a release signed by him, titled ‘A NEW DAWN IS NEAR’, congratulated his fellow aspirants in the primaries and called for their contribution towards realizing the purpose of his candidacy.

A NEW DAWN IS NEAR

Today is a great day. It marks the beginning of our match towards a new order. Today marks the start of an era of a new Nnewi for our people.

Today, as I collect the Certificate of Return as the candidate of our great party APGA to fly the flag of the party at the House of Assembly election in 2019 for Nnewi North Constituency, I am highly humbled by this victory. I am humbled because out of the rich pack of aspirants, I was chosen to fly the flag of our party to represent our people in the State Assembly.

This responsibility humbles me to the core and I am deeply grateful to our people for finding me worthy of undertaking this onerous task.

I want to first appreciate God Almighty who made this happen. Without whom, I would have come distant last. But out of His grace and favour, He chose me. He picked me as a nobody but strategically positions me for greatness. No amount of encomiums will be enough to thank Him.

I earnestly appreciate all the delegates in this primary election, especially those who out of trust, cast their votes for me. You may not fully appreciate what you did but in due time, you will be very proud giving me this rare opportunity to represent our collective interest.

May I in a special way appreciate those who supported me all through this journey. My team members and those who believed in my vision and supported me. Permit me not to call your names one by one, at least, at this stage.

I appreciate my brothers who ran this race with me. Hon. Amala Anazodo, Hon. Dr. Obinna Ngonadi, Hon. Nnanyelu Onyejepu, Hon. Engr. Law Okeke, Hon. Kenson Okeke, Hon. Ikenna Ubazuonu. I respect you all. You went about this campaign with highest level of decorum. To others, we were opponents; but to us, we remain brothers. And in that spirit of brotherhood, I humbly request you to join hands with me to make Nnewi better and greater. Your visions projected in the course of this campaign were amazing and can’t be allowed to die. So let’s form a think-tank that will provide our people quality representation.

To my great people of Nnewi, I thank you for this opportunity.

The love and support I have enjoyed from our people is huge dept I must pay, a debt only quality representation can pay. My assurance is that I will never fail you. All through my growing up, I have handled a lot of leadership assignments and by his grace, I never failed those that trusted me. I won’t start now.

For some time now, Nnewi has become a story about a resourceful people who have been a little short of hope these past few years but need to be reminded of how their past triumphs proved they have it in them to build an even more prosperous and globally respected Nnewi Nation. My emergence as an Honorable member of the House will serve as the catalyst to make that happen.

Nnewi is about to raise a new generation of young leaders that will act as catalysts to the emergency of a great Nnewi, Anambra and Nigeria of our dream.

Together, let us forge ahead and support this dream for our people. Together, we can renew the belief of our people in quality representation and show them a good cause to believe their representative is for them.

A legislator never goes into office for himself. Thank you for finding me worthy to be your humble servant on this race.
