Nnewi Born, Dalu Ajene Appointed CEO of Standard Chartered Bank

Dalu Ajene has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank to oversee the Bank’s operations in Nigeria.

The banker who has over 23 years’ experience in the global financial services sector hails from Nnewi in Anambra State.

Dalu Ajene will take over from Lamin Manjang, the Vice Chairman Africa and Acting CEO, who will be retiring from the Bank after 25 years of service, having reached the mandatory retirement age.

According to the bank, Dalu’s appointment is a testament to the Bank’s established culture of promoting excellence and assurance of its esteemed stakeholders in the Nigerian financial industry.

It will be recalled that in 2022, Dalu Ajene was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Rand Merchant Bank Nigeria (RMBN)

Before that appointment, he served as the head of Client Coverage at RMB in South Africa, responsible for client origination teams in South Africa, Broader Africa, and the UK. He was equally the Deputy CEO and Head of Investment Banking at RMBN, where he previously headed up the Corporate Finance business.

Over his 21 years of experience, he has executed over US$15-billion worth of advisory, capital markets, and financing transactions in several continents, including North America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Dalu Ajene holds an MBA in Finance and Strategy from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Dartmouth College.
