HARVEST OF CRIMINALS IN ANAMBRA: POLICE NAB 124, RECOVER ARMS

In order to further stem the tide of crime and ensure that all Anambrarians, both at home and in diaspora, celebrate Christmas and New Year without hindrance or molestation, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Garba Baba Umar, has directed for aggressive raids on criminal hideouts and black spots in the state; and the directives have started yielding positive results.

In a release by the State Police Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, a Superintendent of Police, the Command stated that between November 26, 2018, and December 6, 2018, through its Special Anti Cultism Squad, SPACS, led by Mr Christopher Bassey; and Divisional Police headquarters, have arrested a total number of 124 suspected cultists and other categories of criminals from various parts of the state.

Breakdown of the arrest shows that 10 suspected cultists were arrested from Oyi local government area, while 5 suspects were arrested from Ihiala in Ihiala local government area.

The release further revealed that 6 suspects were arrested from Eziagulu Aguleri in Anambra East, 7 from Nsugbe also in Anambra East LGA, 5 from Amikwo Awka, 22 from Okpuno Awka, and 11 from the 3-3 Area near Onitsha.

Other arrests include Amansea/ Awka axis, 8 suspects; Nibo/Nise axis in Awka South, 22 suspects; Nkpor area in Idemili North, 11 suspects; Onitsha area, 15 suspects; and Ekwulobia area in Aguata LGA, 2 suspects.

The report further revealed that during the raids, the Command recovered
4 locally made Pistols, 6 cutlasses,
2 axes, over one thousand wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 2 regalia for Aye and Junior Vikings Fraternities (JVC) respectively.

Anaedooline.com gathered that out of the 124 suspects arrested within the period, 37 have confessed and were charged to court, 53 were screened and released, while 34 others are still under investigation.

The Command assured the general public that it is determined, as usual, to ensure that criminals have no hiding place in the state, especially during the coming festive periods; adding that it would deal decisively with anyone caught doing anything contrary to the laws of the land.
