CHRIST THE WAY SEC SCH NNEWI HOLDS CAREER DAY

Christ the Way Secondary School, Nnewi, Thursday, February 27, held
its 2019 Career Day celebration.

The school managed by the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, held its first career day under its new principal, Rev. Father Charles Udeke.

The ceremony was attended by parents, politicians, industrialists, and people from all walks of life.

In his welcome address, the principal, Fr. Udeke, said the program was to help “students choose a better career which focuses on solving problems in the society and which looks beyond certificate acquisition”.

The principal, who emphasized the importance of students focusing on their education in order to achieve their goals, said he hopes to continue the career day annually.

Some of the dignitaries that attended the programme include Nonso Okafor, APGA candidate for Nnewi North House of Assembly; the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Budget Monitoring and Implementation, Ogbuefi Melie Onyejepu; Director General of Nonso Smart Okafor Campaign Organization, Arch. Paul Ileka; PDP candidate for Nnewi North House of Assembly, Hon. Benchuks Nwosu; Mr. Emeka Okonkwo, the Board Chairman of Christ the Way Secondary School; Students from Assumpta Comprehensive Secondary School, Umuohama Ukpor; visitors from the Women Education Center, Nnewi; and a host of others, including teachers and students of Christ the Way Secondary School.

The keynote address titled “Bridging the Gap Between Schooling and Society” was presented by Sir Orji Udemezue, who was represented by Patrick Ijenwa.

Mr. Ijenwa reiterated the need for students to study hard and avoid distractions from the society.

He said, “Spend time studying, and pursue diligence, not money”.

He encouraged the students to focus more on skills where they have passion.

A Guest Speaker, Mrs. Ify Unachukwu, told the students that there are many careers opportunities outside of science and medicine.

She told her young audience that they could also be teachers like her, teaching their choice subjects in schools.

In his remark during the ceremony, the APGA House of Assembly candidate, Nonso Smart Okafor, said education is one of his core focus and that he is happy being with the students.

He encouraged the students to focus on their studies and even to go out of their various ways to learn more to better society.

While speaking to anaedoonline.ng, Nonso Okafor said he hopes to use his platform when he gets to the House of Assembly to advocate for proper education for his constituency.

On his own remarks, Hon. Benchuks Nwosu told the students a story about how he persisted to ensure he got an education even as all the odds were against him.

Nwosu said, “You need motivation, vision, determination, and faith to make it. But the first career choice is to get education’’.

The students were also given time to display their talents which served as entertainment to both guests and students.

Some of the students, Uche Iwudo, Mmesoma Vera Okeke, Nwodo Maryjane, Nsobundu Favour, among others, entertained the students.

The program ended with the presentation of awards to Sir. Udemezue, and appreciation of the entire staff and students by the principal of the school.
