Tribunal Begins Hearing on Obinna Ngonadi’s Petition Against Nonso Okafor (Smart)
Legal fireworks have commenced, today, Friday 10th May, 2019, at Anambra State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, on the pre-hearing on the petition of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and its candidate, Obinna Ngonadi, challenging the outcome of the March 9th, 2019, Anambra State House of Assembly Election for Nnewi North State Constituency.

The petitioners are seeking to invalidate the declaration of Nonso Okafor (Smart) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as a winner of the Nnewi North State House of Assembly seat.
The petitioners are praying that the court declares Obinna Ngonadi the outright winner of the election and that the court should order a rerun in about Nine (9) 9 polling units that results were canceled.

Counsel to the petitioners pleaded that the tribunal should adjourn the matter to allow them to study and reply to the defense of Nonso Okafor (Smart)
The tribunal set was however adjourned to Saturday, 18th May 2019.
Security operatives, including the police, military and the Department of State Services (DSS), were strategically positioned within the court premises.

It will be recalled that on Sunday March 10th, the Returning Officer for Anambra State House of House of Assembly Election for Nnewi North Constituency, Dr. Alapuchukwumbuikem Eugene while announcing the result at the Nnewi North Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation center, said that Nonso Okafor of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 13,231 votes to emerge winner, defeating his closest rival, Obinna Ngonadi of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), who polled 12,383, while Hon. Benchuks Nwosu polled 2,452 votes to come a distant 3rd.
