Igbo leader Tasks Anambra Communities On Self Help Initiatives

The Spiritual leader of the Igbo nation, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo) has made a clarion call to all the communities in Anambra State to as a matter of importance embark on self help initiatives as measures to address erosion, bad condition of roads and emerging high rate of joblessness among the youths in the State , noting that the self help initiative is not a bad idea because government cannot do everything for the people.

Speaking to Newsmen today on the poor condition of roads and erosion menace in the Light of the Nation State especially in the rural areas, Chief Ezeonwuka observed that problems of bad roads escalate to high degrees because people neglect doing little things on the platform of self help adding that bad road could be prevented at the early stage by mere sand filling a pot hole and constructing curvets and drainages with a little amount of money which a community can readily source out from the people.

According to him, “the self help measures should be aimed at supporting what the State Government is doing to develop the State because it is clear that government cannot do everything.

Governor Willie Obiano is paying workers promptly, giving youths opportunity to serve in State workforce, he has always ensured adequate security, he has given each community two or more projects of their choice under N40 million community “Make Your Choice Project” , he facilitated improvement in Agriculture and road construction works are on going here and there with many roads completed and many other things that I cannot list off hands” , He said

The Ogilisi Igbo stressed the need for community leaders such as town union President Generals and traditional rulers of every community in Anambra to join heads and hands together and articulate means of embarking on self help measures to address the immediate challenges facing the people, most especially the issue of road, erosion and joblessness among the youth noting that each community in the State have people that are wealthy people with Investments within Nigeria and beyond.

He asked , “Can’t people donate money for the development of their communities? Can’t people pay development levy in their communities?”

“People donate money to social clubs, donate money to the Church, donate money to political parties and politicians, donate money for anniversary celebrations, birthday parties and other social functions. spend heavily on weddings, burial ceremonies, spend heavily on drinking and seeking fun.”

Continuing, he said, “So why can’t they donate money to their villages and pay development levies ? “.

The Igbo Spiritual leader harped on the need for community leaders to pay close attention to poverty and joblessness among the youth and not just focus their interest on selling land. Pointing out that it is not impossible for a community to raise fund and build a skill acquisition centre where youth of the land can be trained in various hand works like mechanics, fashion designers, hair dressers and how to process food and livestock among others too numerous to mention.

He said that it is the job of President Generals and traditional rulers to fight the cause of their communities with the resources and man power available in their disposal, thus, he advised all President Generals and traditional rulers in the State to wake up and device means of generating revenue from their subjects for the purpose of attending to the poor condition of life in the land.

“Some of these community leaders don’t even know their job, their interest is just to sell land and rake in money, they should know that it is their job to address bad condition of the roads, poverty, underdevelopment and unemployment of the youth.”

“So as the Spiritual leader of the Igbo nation , I am calling on the community leaders to start to do something for their communities on self help initiatives because government cannot do everything for the people” he maintained.

The Ogilisi Igbo who is a member of the Board of Trustees BOT of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) also used the opportunity to once more call on Ndigbo to stop depositing dead bodies in the morgue, calling on families and villagers who have dead bodies languishing in morgues across Igbo land to go and take them and bury them according to the burial rites of Ndigbo because according to him, the souls of dead bodies that are not buried will always cause problems for the living.
