Update: Eyewitnesses Narrate How A Tanker Crushed A School Child In Nnewi
Eyewitnesses identified as Uche Okonkwo and Ndidiamaka have recounted their experience during the very unfortunate accident that claimed the life of a young school girl in Nnewi.
According to Ndidiamaka, the very unfortunate accident which was an avoidable one should be blamed on the roadside traders along the Cathedral Church of St. Mary’s Junction Uruagu Nnewi Road.

Speaking to Anaedoonline.com, he said, “I was standing in this junction with my brother, as the tanker was driving through the junction trying to veer towards the other part of the road, the women selling groundnut and oranges occupied some part of the road, as the driver was trying to avoid the women, there were three young school children on the road, unfortunately, the front tyre of the tanker crushed one of them.”
On why he blamed the women selling on the road as the cause of the accident.
He said, “The roadside traders were occupying both the pedestrian lane and some part of the road, thereby leaving pedestrians to run the risk of walking through the road, the tanker driver was trying to avoid the women without the knowledge that there was school children near the tanker.”
For Uche Okonkwo, he said, “When the tanker driver was trying to veer to the other part of the Nkwo-Nkwo road, the school kids were also near the pedestrian part of the road, the women trading in the road occupied some part of the road.”

“The school children were avoiding the women trading and also the tanker was trying veer toward another part of the junction, as one of them was trying to drag the younger one, she felled on the ground, unfortunately, the tanker driver, who did not know what was happening, crushed the little child with his car tyre, immediately, the women trading on the road packed their goods and escaped.”
According to reports, angry mob who tried to set the tanker on fire were resisted by the Police.
The driver of the tanker whose identity is yet to be ascertained has however reported himself to the police station.
