Nnewi: Electricity Committee Chairman Tackles EEDC Manager, Accuses Him of Corruption.
The Chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Electricity Committee, Hon. Sir Fabian Obi, has accused Engr. Emmanuel Udochukwu, the Manager of Nnewi District of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), for bribery and corruption.
Speaking to Anaedoonline.com, Sir Fabian Obi, said that Engr. Emmanuel Udochukwu is arrogant and has shown traces of corruption while spearheading the management of Nnewi District of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
Speaking he said, “When I was appointed the Electricity Chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, with members of my committee, we visited the Engr. Emmanuel Udochukwu in his office to lay complaints concerning the challenges being faced by people living in Nnewi as it concerns electricity, especially as it concerns unjustified estimated billing and distribution of prepaid meter”
“While demanding for increased distribution of prepaid meter in Nnewi, we queried him on why distribution of meter in Nnewi has been in slow pace, he responded saying that EEDC has distributed over Ten thousand (10,000) prepaid meters, but when we asked for proof, he gave us a list showing that about Four Thousand Three Hundred and Three (4,303) prepaid meters have been distributed in Nnewi”
Speaking further, Mr. Fabian Obi, cited cases that showed bribery that led to the indiscriminate distribution of prepaid meters.

In his words, he said, “After thorough scrutiny of the list, we found out that EEDC in Nnewi distributes meters based on the highest bidder, most of the beneficiary of this corrupt acts are basically people living in commercial houses. They pay hundreds of thousands to get meters that were made to be free. Those living in private houses are deprived of their right. We also complained about the issue of exorbitant estimate bills which our people are forced to pay, our people are billed from Twenty Thousand Naira and above, when we queried him on that, he said that he buys electricity at the cost of Sixteen Million Naira Monthly, we appealed to him to reduce the amount of the estimated bills to ensure that our people are relieved the pains of paying through their noses. We believe that they rake billions of Naira in Nnewi yearly through estimated billing”
Emphasising on the procedures they took to dialogue with the Manager, he said that instead of the Manager to listen to them, he insulted them and accused them of meddling into his affairs. He, however, said that the Committee decided to seek for his immediate removal and have forwarded a petition to the General Manager of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

The Electricity Committee was set up by Nzuko-Ora Nnewi (Nnewi Town Union) and charged with the responsibilities of facilitating electricity supply to Nnewi and monitoring compliance, checking abuses and providing needed and adequate certain misdeeds of Mr. Emmanuel Udochukwu.
