Anambra Market Leader, ‘Baby Awka” Regains Freedom

The Chairman of Eke Awka Market in Anambra State, Emeka Agummadu, popularly known as “Baby Awka” who was arrested by the police on Wednesday for alleged cult killings has regained his freedom.

Addressing journalists in Awka on Friday, Agummadu refuted reports alleging that he was a financier of cult activities in Awka and environs.

Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police in the state led the operation for Agummadu’s arrest.

But at the press briefing on Friday, the market leader described the allegation as false and unfounded, aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

He called on the Police to investigate the matter with a viewing to ascertaining the correct situation.

He said, “I’m not a cultist and I don’t sponsor cult killings or any related crimes.

“The allegation is the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at tarnishing my image”.

“As a philanthropist, I have changed the living condition of so many Awka indigenes and contributed immensely to the development of the town”.

He pledged to work with the state government in the provision of security in the area.
