The Imo State Government has begun the process of payment of pensioners in Imo state. This was made known by Mr. Paschal Madu, the Special Assistant to Governor Ihediaoha on Technical Matters and the leader of the team on pension verification during an interactive session with newsmen in Owerri.

The governor’s aide who accused the previous administration of ”dumping the pension payment files in the hall like dustbin” revealed that about 13,513 out of estimated 30,000 files have been treated, noting that the team commenced work on July 22, 2019.

Giving insights into the gains of the exercise, Madu stated that the sorting would lead to verification and biometric capturing. The ultimate goal, Madu explained, was to ensure regular payment of pensions and at the same time discourage the evil of ghost payments.

Governor Ihedioha had recently lamented over the accumulated pension arrears in Imo state.
