FRSC Intensifies Safety Campaign In Anambra

The Ember month according to reports has the highest rate of vehicular movements on the road as this period is jam-packed with activities which result in more travel and moving about.

With these developments, Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has intensified campaign for free vehicular movement and traffic management for the Ember Months, with its daily traffic control now ending by nine o’clock in the night.

Sector Commander in Anambra State, Mr Andrew Kumapayi has urged travellers to always plan their journey and never be in a hurry.

Due to the expected increase in the number of vehicles on the road during the ember period, most especially December and the resultant traffic gridlock that it causes, the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has extended the time for traffic control to nine o’clock in the night.

The major areas where Officers and Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps were stationed to control traffic until nine o’clock in the night includes; Kwata and Aroma flyovers and Club Road formerly Abakaliki Street axis, where the Sector Commander, in company of other officers paid a visit to assess the level of traffic and monitor personnel on duty.

Speaking at the Aroma flyover, Kumapayi revealed that the exercise started over a month ago to ensure the free flow of traffic for the ember season, especially on the axis visited, given the high level of traffic known within the area and commended the State government for its support.

Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Christian Madubuko, assured that Anambra State will partner the FRSC to ensure the safety of lives on roads throughout the Ember period noting that the installation of the traffic light on key areas is part of the safety measures. Meanwhile, the FRSC Boss warned that those who violate traffic laws during the ember period will be dealt with.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, Kumapayi also disclosed that they are working with transporters on how to ensure safety, especially making sure that they are properly licensed and their vehicles registered with appropriate number plates, assuring that the Corps is fully ready in terms of emergency response to road crashes but assured that the Ember Months will be crash-free.
