Nollywood: My Goal Is To Contribute To The Growth Of My State – Okafor

As the election of Nigeria Actors Guild (AGN) draws nearer, Vice Presidential candidate Oby Okafor has retreated her ambition of becoming the VP stating that AGN will witness a huge transformation, especially in the South East if she wins the upcoming election.

Okafor a veteran Nollywood artiste/politician hails from Isiagu Amikwo Village in Awka South LGA Anambra State. She joined the movie industry in 1993 when it was known as Nigeria Actors Guild (NAG) before it became Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

Okafor, is one-time Governorship candidate, two time senatorial candidate for Anambra Central and a two time National Treasurer of AGN. In her words “I left Lagos for Anambra State to contribute to the growth of my state”

The veteran artist/politician featured in the early films, living in Bondage and Taboo. According to her “My objective is to make sure all the states of AGN in the South East have good office. I will promote the health status and welfare of the artistes in the South East in line with the National president’s vision of good health for all artistes.

“There will be constant seminars for members to freshen and keep members up to date. I will make sure that southeast becomes the hub of home movies. I will also liaise with the whole eastern governors for lands for the artist’s village. Proper welfare and accommodation of artist while on the act (during production). \

“I will also work hand in hand with all artists from the South East to actualize this dream of taking Igbo tradition and heritage all over the world so as to make the Igbo nation proud. Most of the productions that are supposed to be shoot in the southeast are been diverted to other regions. I want to put an end to these.

“I want to thank the Governor of Anambra State, a lover of entertainment who promised to build a film village in Anambra State. I call on other southeastern governors to follow his footsteps and do the same in their states. The southeast zone will have the office of the VP were we will be taking decisions on how to take the industry to the next level.

Senior Special Assistance to the Governor of Anambra State on Environment, Bibiana Nwankwo (Ada APGA) who is also a producer/actress described Okafor (Lolo) as “a noble, caring and an intellectual and a team player. She is the kind of leader AGN needs and by God’s grace, she will come out victorious”.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Obi Dike described AGN as an association that comprises the whole actors/actresses in Nigeria. Speaking about the VP candidate, Dike emphasized saying “That she is one of Nigeria most talented artists is not in doubt. Her numerous accolades and awards indeed speak for her”.

Public Relations Officer Anambra State AGN, Muoma Obinna on his part said Lolo has paid her duos in the industry. As a veteran, mother and politician, her experience will be highly needed in taking the movement to the next level”.
