Flood: Anambra Commissioner Frowns On Blocked Drainage Channels In Nkwo Nnewi Market.

Following the negative impact of recent torrential rainfall that flooded most shops in Nkwo Nnewi, the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Wealth Creation, Hon. Uchenna Okafor has visited Nkwo Nnewi Motorcycle Spare Parts Market to ascertain the level of damage and provide possible solutions.

It will be recalled that the recent heavy rainfall which wreaked havoc in the state affected some of the shops and goods in Nkwo Nnewi Market.

During the visit, the Commissioner observed that almost all the water channels in the market were blocked by shop owners who erected stalls on them. The few that was opened were blocked with garbages and nylons.

Speaking after the inspection, Hon. Uchenna Okafor appealed to the traders to stop dumping of refuse in the drainage, he advised them to make use of the waste bins in disposing of their waste.

He, however, said that the best solution to the perennial flood problem witnessed in the market was to open the drains and removal of structures erected on water channels.

He called for the removal of all structures erected on the different drainage channels and a total clean-up of water channels in the town.

Hon. Uchenna Okafor was accompanied by the Chairman, Motorcycle Spare Parts Dealers Association, Nnewi, Hon. Obinna Okechukwu, Nnewi North Local Transition Committee Chairman, Hon. Chukwudi Orizu, Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Legislative Matters, Hon. Amala Anazodo and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Njideka Oradum.
