El Classico: Barcelona And Real Madrid Match Postponed, No New Date yet

There can’t be a more interesting match to watch than Barcelona and Real Madrid square up against each other. It’s a classic match, “El Classico”.

The tie which was slated for October 26 was rescheduled due to the growing social unrest in Catalonia after the Spanish Supreme Court sentenced nine Catalan separatist leaders for their involvement in a referendum that was held in defiance of the Spanish Constitution and a subsequent declaration of independence in 2017.

La Liga bosses fear that protestors could take advantage of the fixture’s huge global audience, which is estimated to be around 650 million.

The Competition Committee has confirmed that El Clasico has been postponed and won’t be held at the Camp Nou on October 26, as originally scheduled.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona will now have to set a new date for the meeting and communicate their decision with the Committee before 10:00 on Monday, October 21.

In the event of a date not being agreed, the Committee will set one themselves.

A statement released officially dismissed LaLiga’s requests to change the calendar and have the game played at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
