Anambra Assembly Passes 2020 Budget Into Law

The Legislative arm of Anambra State Government, Anambra State House Of Assembly, yesterday, passed the 2020 Budget into law, making it the very first state to have passed the 2020 budget into law.

The Anambra state 2020 draft estimate was presented to the Assembly by the governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano, on the 26th day of September 2019, after which the House commenced its evaluation of the budget with the draft estimate as submitted, going through the first and second reading on the 10th of October 2019 before it was referred to the Finance and Appropriation Committee for thorough evaluation by the different House Committees concerned.

For the 2020 fiscal year, Anambra has a budget size of N137, 135, 743, 439. This figure is a summation of proposed N58, 772, 739, 914, as recurrent expenditure and N78, 363, 003, 525, as capital expenditure.

The House Committee on Appropriation in its report, approved the sums as proposed by the executive. The Committee recommended that further draft estimates should be presented to the House in hard and soft copies, among other recommendations.

Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on National and State Assembly Matters; Hon. Amala Anazodo commended the leadership of the 7th Assembly of Anambra state. According to the ex-lawmaker, “Anambra state was the first state to pass the 2020 budget into law.

When you look at the budget, you will see that an enormous amount of work has gone into preparing and passing the budget into law. The Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has demonstrated leadership with the consistency of the Anambra State budget since assuming office in 2014.

Each budget has a focus and the budget performance is impressive. I am indeed proud that Anambra state has remained on the path of progress”, Hon. Anazodo said.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor commended the Finance and Appropriation Committee chaired by Hon. Obinna Emenaka, member representing Anambra East Constituency and deputized by Hon. Nonso Okafor, member representing Nnewi North constituency, for a job well done.
