The President General of Nnewi Youth Forum, Amb. Paul Muoneke (JP) has said that to build a sustainable economy and to take the youths off the street, agricultural revolution is key.

Speaking to Anaedoonline shortly after the 1st Nnewi Agricultural Fair which held at Eneta Edo Square, Nkwo Nnewi, Anambra State, during the weekend, the ebullient and dynamic youth leader said that it is time for youths to shun social vices, idleness, and leverage on the ongoing agricultural revolution in Nigeria.

Speaking he said, “I discovered that some of our youths are being carried away by what I can call social vices. When you look around, you will find out that most of our youths are actively involved in so many idle and unproductive activities. They think that the only opportunity for them to succeed is through those unproductive things”

“If you go back to history, you will discover that our forefathers actually made it through agriculture, somebody like Sir Louis Ojukwu was an Agriculturist, he started with palm produce. From there he went into Transportation and later became the richest man in Africa”

“These days our youths think that once you are not opportune to be a Businessman, you are finished. So, I thought it worthwhile that if one is not fortunate to be in business or have a high educational attainment, he or she can still be meaningfully engaged”

Emphasising further on why youths should embrace agriculture, he said, “I can remember vividly that our former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was a Farmer, agriculture is very important, with agriculture, you will feed very well and you can even metamorphose into commercial farming, these are some of the things that prompted this initiative, hopefully, by next year, we will do this in a bigger way”
