Barely one week after giving approval for the asphalting of 26.665km Ukpabi-Nimbo-Ugbene Ajima-Eziani Road In Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area and asphalting of the 22.443 km Neke-Mbu-Ogbodu Aba-Obollo Etiti road Connecting Isi-Uzo and Udenu local government area of the state, the Enugu State Government has signed contract agreements with contractors handling the two projects.
The 22.443 km Neke-Mbu-Ogbodu Aba-Obollo Etiti road will be handled by Messrs Servizio Globale Limited at the cost of N 913,434 678 naira while the 26.665km Ukpabi-Nimbo-Ugbene Ajima-Eziani will be handled by Messrs Emamed Construction Company at the sum of N1,090,631, 422.
The Project Coordinator Enugu State Rural Access and Mobility Projects, Chinedu Ugwu signed on behalf of Enugu state government while Mahet Hamash signed on behalf of Servizio Globale Limited and Olatunde Olanubi signed for Emamed Construction Company.
The two projects have delivery period of four months.
Speaking at the project signing ceremony, RAMP Project Coordinator, Engineer Chinedu Ugwu charged the contractors to execute the projects in line with projects specification.
He disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has fulfilled the state government’s obligation by paying its counterpart fund as required by the world bank funding arrangement.
Ugwu explained that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi gave approval for the two roads projects because of their importance in linking and providing access to multiple communities in line with the rural development policy of his administration.
“These roads are some of the roads we did in our phase one and the contract for the asphalting of this roads have just been signed”.
“I am extremely happy because we did not know that this was going to happen”.
“The discussion came up with his Excellency, the Governor and he said “yes, I like what RAMP is doing, but RAMP can go a step forward by giving us asphalted roads, that way, the communities will know that what they have will last for a very long time.”
“this is really going to change the life of the people living along these road corridors. We have a lot of communities in Isi-uzo about six or seven communities and in the case of Uzo-uwani, Nsukka, we have about five communities and what that means is that there wouldn’t be any case of food losses”.
“The farmers would easily take their foods to the market where there wouldn’t be middlemen to mess them up and can easily sell their products, to make profit. A lot of people will go into farming, a lot of people will also go into estate business, because some estates will also spring up along these corridors. So, for us, it is a win-win situation and we are very happy about that”.
On the standards expected of the contractors, he said “the issue of standard is not negotiable because we have supervision consultant as well as technical management. It is their duty to ensure that all the specifications stipulated are to met”.
Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Project Manager, Emamed Construction Company, Olatunde Olanubi assured that the projects will be executed in line with specification and completed within project timeline.

Olanubi who commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his rural-focused policies said they would mobilize to site within the next two weeks.
“Yes, like I said inside there, we came in here like a stranger and today we are signing contract.
We give glory to God and it was a very rigorous exercise. A lot of hard work, a lot of documentation but at the end, we were surprised when we got the call that the job has been awarded to us. We give glory to God and we will make sure that we will deliver in the task that is ahead of us.
“The contract sum is over one billion naira. The road is 26 kilometers, so it is a lot of work to be done. We shouldn’t look at the total sum, we should look at the work and the quality of work expected from us.
