Panic As Another Tanker Loaded With Cooking Gas Crash In Anambra

A tanker fully loaded with cooking gas (Butane) lost control and crashed into the pavement of Onitsha/Awka Expressway, at about 150m away from the Pedestrian Bridge, MCC, Awada, Anambra state at about 2:30 pm, today 28/1/2020
The police and other emergency responders are on the ground. Traffic has been diverted to a safer lane/route.

Members of the public are kindly advised to keep off the area in view of the combustible nature of the product that the truck involved in the accident is carrying until the situation is brought under control and obstruction cleared please.

The city of Onitsha has been in the news for the wrong reasons, disaster after disaster. In space of 2 days, we have recorded two tragic events that have claimed lives and properties.

Not less than 22 vehicles were burnt while eight houses were torched in another petrol tanker explosion along Enugu-Onitsha expressway by Bessoy filling station, Onitsha, Anambra state.

The vehicles, including three caterpillars, were said to be parked in two mechanical workshops along Udodi street Omagba phase 2 of the commercial city.

The incident, coming barely 48 hours after a similar explosion in Upper Iweka and Ochanja market, was said to have occurred around Omaba Phase 2 at the wee hours of Friday.

The tanker carrying petrol was said to have fallen in the middle of the road, spilling its contents along the drainage channels.

The Nation gathered that some residents near the area ran out of their buildings for fear of being consumed by the inferno.

Properties worth millions, including buildings, vehicles and other valuables were reportedly gutted by the fire.

A sympathizer, Cyril Okeke, regretted that in less than two days, the commercial city had witnessed two major fire incidents resulting from petroleum tankers.

He, however, commended the State Fire Service for a prompt response.
