Utuh Community In Anambra Elect New Leaders (Photos)

Utuh Community Development Union, UDU, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State has elected new executives to run the affairs of the community for a Four-year single tenure.

The election which held yesterday, Saturday, February 1, 2020, was conducted by officials of Anambra State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under an officer of the Ministry, Herny Nwasike

The position of the President-General of the Community was contested between Dr. Ignitius Offordi from Uhorji Village, Utuh, a lecturer in the Department of English and Linguistics in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) while his opponent, Prof Cynado Ezeogidi hails from Umunnor, Utuh Community, and is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and International Studies at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University Igbariam and currently the Head of Department (HOD) of History and International Studies.

The keenly contested election which had only Five (5) invalid votes saw to the victory of Prof. Cynado Ezeogidi, who got 219 votes to defeat Dr. Ignitius Offordi, who got 115 votes.

Speaking after the election, the President-Elect Utuh, Prof. Cynado Ezeogidi promised the community that his administration will ensure the Peace and Development of the Utuh Community, urging for the support of both indigenes and residents of the community.

He commended his opponent, Dr. Ignitius Offordi, for showing the spirit of sportsmanship by accepting defeat and congratulating him.

Asked if he will step down as Chairman Umunnor Village in Utuh, now he has been elected as the President of Utuh Community, he said that the decision will be left for his village to decide.

On the lack of electricity in the town, Prof. Cynado Ezeogidi said that he will work tirelessly with those incharge to restore electricity in the town.

Speaking in his capacity as the Caretaker President-General of Utuh Community, Hon Gerald Akaeze, returned all Glory to God for making the election a successful one, he also commended the electoral committee for conducting a Free, Fair and Credible election.

Congratulating Prof. Cynado Ezeogidi, he urged him to keep the Community united while consolidating on the achievements of the outgoing Caretaker Committee.

He advised that since Utuh is a Community that is still coming out of crisis, Prof. Cynado Ezeogidi under his leadership needs to make concerted efforts in making such that the relative peace which the community enjoys now, should not in any form threatened but rather be improved upon.

Reeling out his achievements in his short-term in office, he said that after over in February, 7th, 2018, he was able to reconcile different factions of the Youth Leadership of the Community after conducting a fresh election. He also returned the dissolved Cabinet council after making the declaration in the Central Representative Assembly of Utuh Community.

“My administration was able to resuscitate the Community Vigilante of Utuh, thereby improving the security of lives and properties of our people”

“We organized Youth Empowerment Programs for the youths of our community through the support of privileged individuals of this Community”

“Despite the financial challenges we have, we did some intervention projects, we were able to restore water supply in our Community Health Center and Market. We also did some palliative works in some of our roads, to make those roads motorable”

“In the area of Education, our community won an award as the best Community in Education, sequel to this, we decided to setup a Committee for the building of a Community Library”

Other Members of the New Committee includes;
Isaac Chukwudum Anya – Secretary.
Onwugamba Chizoba – Publicity Secretary.
Paul Anyaegbu – Treasurer.
Obumneme Anyaonwu – Provost.

Other executive positions was however, vacant, pending the Inauguration of the New Committee.
