Anambra Govt Seeks Private Sector Partnership To Boost Power Supply

Anambra State Government has called for Private Sector partnership towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the State.

Governor Willie Obiano made the call during an investment summit at Nnewi.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, described power as the soul of industrialization, restated the commitment of the present administration towards ensuring steady power supply in Anambra, noting that with the help of private sector, the vision of the government in power sector will easily be actualized.

Also speaking, the Managing Director Century Power Generation limited, Dr Chukwueloka Umeh said the steady power supply is achievable if an agreement would be reached between the government and private sector on the power sector.

The event witnessed the presence of top business men, Group Managing Director, Afrinvest West Africa, Ike Chioke, Director, Ford Foundation, West Africa, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, Managing Director Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, among others.

The need for improved electricity has always been an issue especially in the south east. recently, Ndigbo United Forum, a socio-political organization issued a warning stating that it will embark on a regional protest in the South-East zone to kick against estimated billings and all forms of exploitative tendencies in electricity distribution in the geo-political zone by EEDC.

The protest was letter held on Monday, 27th January 2020 simultaneously across the 5 states of the southeast region even as the organization expressed its resolve not to renege on the protest but to ensure that the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company is compelled to see the welfare of electricity consumers in the region as topmost priority or have their operational license revoked.

Speaking to newsmen in Awka the anambra state capital, acting President-General of Ndigbo United Forum, Chief Godson Chukwuma Ezenagu, said the demonstration became necessary, following the sufferings electricity consumers faced in the hands of EEDC.
