There is tension in the political landscape in Imo State as the Supreme Court has fixed Feb 19, 2019 to hear a review Petition filed by the PDP and Emeka Ihedioha.

The review comes after the Supreme Court sacked Bayelsa State Governor elect, David Lyon citing forgery in the educational certificate filed by Mr.Lyon’s Deputy.

Emeka Ihedioha and the PDP are seeking for review of the matter on the grounds that Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress, APC misled the Supreme Court in its judgement.

The Apex court had on January 14, 2020 removed Ihedioha as Governor and declared Hope Uzodinma as Governor.

The court added votes from 388 polling units for Uzodinma which was excluded by INEC.

In its review Petition, Ihedioha and PDP cited flaws and errors in the results from the 388 polling units, appealing to the Apex court to review and reverse it’s judgement on grounds of nullity.

The sack of Ihedioha has led to widespread protests in Owerri and other parts of the country including abroad.

Elders in the state has have laud supreme court for taking the bold step. addressing citizens of the state,  Prof. Francis Dike (SAN), said “We called you here to show our gratitude to the CJN and the Supreme Court. As elders, the interest of Imo State is paramount to us. It’s on this premise that we thank the learned justices for their courage. We have an unshakable belief in the Supreme Court”.

Presenting a communique on behalf of the elders, Chief Peter Mgbenwelu said: “We have an unshakable belief in the Supreme Court as the greatest force for the good of Nigerian people and it stands as the pinnacle of other arms of government and should be above suspicion.

“It is for this reason that we are pained by the avalanche of reactions both at home and abroad on the judgement. The justices in their own words have said they are final not because they are infallible but will in some circumstances review their finality in the interest of society and of the court.
