The Abia State government says it had commenced investigation into the violent clash that erupted between the unruly fans of Abia Warriors Football Club and Enyimba International Football Club of Aba during the Nigeria Professional Football League Week twenty match.

The Commissioner for Sports, Mr Emeka Ikwuagwu, who stated this in a statement in Umuahia, decried the incident, which took place at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.

Mr Ikwuagwu stated government’s displeasure over the development between the two sister-clubs.

He disclosed that Abia is proud to be the only State in the federation maintaining two clubs at that level but will not accept unwholesome rivalry between the sister-teams.

He also stated that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had directed his personal physician, Dr Mike Enyinna, to offer adequate medical attention to those that sustained injuries during the violent clash.
