Nnewi Considers Change Of Rotation Arrangement

Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, the town union body of Nnewi, has concluded plans to review and possibly, amend the rotation arrangement in the town.

Anaedoonline has gathered that plans have been concluded to inaugurate a New Constitution Review Committee next month.

The committee is expected to be tasked with the responsibility of reviewing sections of Nnewi Constitution that concerns the rotation arrangement of;

1. House of Assembly.
2. Local Government Chairmanship.
3. Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Executive Positions.

Based on the current constitution, the rotation principle in Nnewi approved in Nnewi constitution, section 6.3 subsection 3, stipulates that if Nnewi town has only one seat at the State House of Assembly, the seat will be zoned to Umudim and that it will be rotated in the order of Nnewichi, Uruagu, Otolo, and then back to Umudim.

For the Local Government Chairmanship and Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Executive Positions, the constitutions also stipulate that the seats will rotate four quarters, two-years single tenure for the former and four-years single tenure for the later.

The members of the constitution review committee which will be drawn from Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi, will be inaugurated on Sunday, 1st March 2020.

According to a stakeholder in the town who pleaded anonymity, the constitution review which he described as necessary, will likely remove the rotation clause in the three elective positions.

Anaedoonline has also gathered that the Chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Board of Trustee, Senator Barr. Onyeabo and Sir Dennis Ofordeme, are being considered to head the committee.

It will be recalled that in 2018, the unity of Nnewi was threatened following the attempt made to amend the rotation arrangement as it concerns the House of Assembly Seat.

The amendment which was meant to favour the Former Lawmaker Representing the town in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Amala Anazodo, was greeted with many discordant voices.
