South East First Ladies And Their Pet Projects

More than anything, the first ladies of southeastern Nigeria have ensured that in their own capacity, they have been able to make an impact on the people of their state and to the country at large. This article in its shortest brief, tells the giant strides these first ladies are involved in on a daily, while their husbands are busy piloting the affairs of their states.

Anambra state:

Mrs Obiano

The first lady of Anambra State in the person of Mrs. Ebele Obiano commenced her pet project titled Caring Family Enhancement Welfare, CAFE for short, which revolves around children, young women, and widows. The program oversaw the distribution of materials for the welfare of kids and widows as well. Ebele Obiano also made it a point to see that women were empowered with tools and skills they would need to start-up businesses on their own.Abia state:

Nkechi Ikpeazu, the first lady of Abia state is the proprietor and the founder of the Vicar hope foundation which is primarily concerned with the welfare of widows and kids. The Vicar hope foundation can boast of uplifting of widows in a number of ways, it has given houses to homeless widows and has assisted the physically challenged with relief materials as well as subsidized costs of health care. The Vicar hope foundation has also hosted seminars on sensitization of the people particularly women on sexual related ailments. The first lady of the state has set her sights high on acquiring standard equipment and devices to help cope with the sickle cell ailment.

Ebonyi state:

The succour and upliftment programme was founded by none other than the first lady of Ebonyi State in the person of Rachel Umahi. The project was centered around four basic themes- health, education, economic empowerment, and women liberation. The first lady has made it a point to see that skill acquisition programmes are held in a bid to teach the women how to stand on their own and earn honestly. It has also promoted enterpreneurship among youths all in a bid to reduce the poverty rate in the state.Enugu state:

Monica Ugwuanyi, the first lady of Enugu state is the founder of the Ugo Touch of Life Foundation (U-TOLF) which is tasked with tackling cancer among women particularly cervical cancer which has plagued women for ages. Under the emblem of the program, she has donated several machines to hospitals to help them assess cervical cancer at its early stages because it is believed that if it is detected early enough, it just might be cured.

That of Imo state wasn’t really captured here as the lingering court case that is currently ongoing in the state has reduced activities in the state to an all-time low. We hope to update this article once the Supreme court review is concluded.
