It’s 3/3 for the apprentice against the master now after a pair of wins in the Premier League this season followed a win on penalties for Lampard’s Derby side against Mourinho’s Manchester United in the League Cup in September 2018.

Lampard will have been especially happy with Chelsea’s second here, which saw the ball go from Olivier Giroud to Mason Mount to Ross Barkley to Marcos Alonso and into the back of the net – the four players he brought into the starting line-up.

It’s not been plain sailing for Lampard in his first season of Premier League management – but a top-four finish of any kind will surely be deemed a success.
