Sanusi Sues Police, SSS, AGF Over Detention

The deposed Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has approached a Federal High Court seeking his release from detention.

Mr Sanusi, a former Central Bank Governor, filed the charges on Thursday in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/357/2020, according to The Nation Newspapers.

The paper reports that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the State Security Service (SSS) are respondents in the suit.

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) is said to have also being joined in the suit praying for an interim order to release him “from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the applicant’s originating summons.”

The suit was said to have been filed by his legal counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) at the court sitting in Abuja.

The traditional ruler was dethroned for publicly criticising Governor Umar Ganduje. He is currently in Awe, a village in Nassarawa State, where he exiled and detained since he was booted out on Monday.

The banishment and detention is said to be in line with the tradition of Kano Emirate Council.
