School Principal dies while saving students during lagos explosion

The pipeline explosion which rocked Abule Ado community of Lagos State in the early hours of Sunday and affected the Bethlehem Girls College also killed the school’s Administrator.

The Principal of Bethlehem High School Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha has died in the Lagos explosion that rocked the Abule-Ado area of the state after making efforts to rescue some students of the school.

In a statement signed by Bro Vincent Iwueze, Alokha rescued all the children under her care from the fire but could not make it herself.

The statement reads:

The explosion according to the National Emergency Management Agency destroyed over 50 buildings in the area.

Bethlehem High School is one of the three schools affected by the explosion that happened around 8 am on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Earlier videos that captured the students of the boarding school being evacuated from the scene of the explosion went viral.

According reports from eyewitnesses, Reverend Sister Henrietta Alokha, the Principal of the school was inside the building saving the students who were trapped in the building.

The appropriate authorities are yet to reveal if any student died in the building. However, eyewitnesses say Sister Henrietta succeeded in rescuing all the students before the roof of the collapsing building eventually fell on her.

Many took to social media to mourn her death as she has been labelled the heroine of the black sunday.
