AFAN Wants President Zoned To South East

All farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, South East zone has said it is time for the position of the president to be zoned to the region to enable complete transformation of the nation’s agricultural sector.

Speaking at the South-East Zonal meeting, the Deputy National President AFAN, Tobias Iwu said that the zone has not produced the president since the inception of AFAN.

“We are asking that the position of the national president of the association be zoned to the South East because now is the right time” he said.

He explained that the association will be more stable and there will be good representation when a president is allowed to emerge from the South East.

He noted that the country has had to battle with security in the country for a long time, particularly the farmer-herder crisis which has immensely affected the agriculture sector in the country.

“Farmers can no longer go to their farms and work comfortably for fear of being attacked and killed by herdsmen” he explained.

He said that is part of what a president from.the zone will be looking at if given the opportunity to serve, adding that without food security, the country will experience an increase in crime rate.

In attendance at the meeting were; Deputy National President, Tobias Iwu, Assistant National Secretary, Akunna Ubosi and South East chairmen of AFAN.
