Following the directive of the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano for the closure of all open markets in the state for 14 days, with effect from Monday, March 31st, 2020, one of South-East biggest market, Nkwo Nnewi witnessed total compliance in observing the directive over Coronavirus.

The closure of markets in Anambra state was in line with the campaign against coronavirus in Anambra State.

A tour around the market by Anaedonline.com showed that the market was deserted while shops in buildings were all under lock and key.

Human and vehicular movements were sparingly on the average on major roads leading to the market.

During the tour in the market, our team was able to get the audience of the very active Chairman of Agbo-Edo Market Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association(AMPSDA), Mr. Dennis Ikegwuonu (Onyeisi), who was on ground to ensure compliance.

Speaking, Mr. Ikegwuonu, said that the market was closed in obedience to the state government directive. He explained that he met with the traders in the market to inform them on the need to obey the directive.

According to him, before the directive, the traders of the market through his leadership ensured that every trader in the market had and made use of tap bucket with water, soap and sanitizer, to contain the virus.

He said that before the closure, he enlightened the traders on the need for them to maintain personal hygiene.

He however urged both the federal and state orientation agencies to do more in enlightening the public about the coronavirus.

Speaking also, the Assistant Secretary of Agbo-Edo Market Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association(AMPSDA), Mr. Ejike Ndubuizu, who was also on ground, said that closure of the market was in compliance to state government directive in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

He said that the traders are happy with the directive to prevent the Itay experience in Anambra and Nigeria.

According to him, though they are losing a lot, the closure was necessary.

Anaedonline.com team also moved around other parts of Nkwo Nnewi, including the Motorcycle Parts, Electrical Parts, Timber and other parts of the market, The story was the same, as the market was fully deserted with no human presence.
