Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez says he may return to former club Independiente if he can be in the same team as Sergio Aguero.

Martinez left Independiente for the Gunners 10 years ago, and after a number of loan moves he has established himself as the club’s No.2 stopper this season following the retirement of Petr Cech last summer.

The 27-year-old has made temporary moves to Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Wolves, Getafe and Reading, but after becoming the Gunners’ second-choice stopper he has featured 11 times in all competitions this season.

Despite that though, he says that he would welcome a return to his former club if he can link up with Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer, who is a boyhood Independiente fan.

When asked if he would ever move back home, he told TNT Sports : “Well, when Kun Aguero returns, I think about it too. It’s the club he loves. The truth is that you can never rule that out.

“I’m open to everything, especially with this British stuff.

“I played in Argentina until I was 17 or 18. I’m never going to say no to the chance of coming back, maybe in two or three years, I’ll be looking forward to it.”

Earlier this month it was reported that Arsenal had finally agreed to pay Independiente an outstanding amount of half a million euros due to a clause in Martinez’s contract when he signed for the club for £1.35million in the summer of 2010.

The club had claimed that they were due the money after Martinez had made 10 first team appearances for the Gunners, although it is claimed that Arsenal disputed that clause as they felt the Europa League wasn’t included in the deal.
