The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control(NCDC) has disclosed that it was unable to know how 203 of the Coronavirus patients in the country contracted the disease.

The Centre disclosed this in its situation report for 21st of April, 2020, published on Wednesday.

Recall that on Tuesday the NCDC announced 117 new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 782.

According to the report, 544 (70 %) of the total figure are males while 238 (30 %) are females.

A further breakdown showed that people within age bracket 31-40 constituted 20% of the total number of coronavirus cases.

The report also shows that 8,934 coronavirus samples had been tested in 24 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“The coronavirus report read, “travel history – 210 (27 percent); contacts – 274 (35 percent); unknown source – 203 (26 percent) and incomplete – 95 (12 percent).”

Meanwhile, the head of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Wednesday that he hoped the Trump administration would reconsider its suspension of funding, but that his main focus was on ending the pandemic and saving lives, Reuters reported.

There were “worrying upward trends” in early epidemics in parts of Africa and central and South America, he said.

“Make no mistake, we have a long way to go. This virus will be with us for a long time,” he said, while noting that epidemics in Western Europe appear to be stabilising or declining.

“Most countries are still in the early stages of their epidemics and some that were affected early in the pandemic are starting to see a resurgence in cases,” Tedros told Geneva journalists in a virtual briefing.
