The Executive Governor Of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie M. Obiano, has inspected Erosion Control Works ongoing at the Nnewi erosion site.

The Governor who was at the Erosion Site, yesterday, Thursday, 30th April, 2020, expressed satisfaction at the pace of work, noting that the state government will ensure that the project will be completed at the shortest possible time.

According to him, construction of access road will soon begin after completion of the massive reclamation of the gully area and compaction with careful channelisation of stormwater in a number of drains.

He commended Nnewi residents for the cooperation they have given the contractors, assuring that the state government is fully committed to keeping her promise.

Speaking, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Hon. Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor, informed the Governor that the compaction of the erosion site with careful channelisation of stormwater in a number of drains is already completed, promising that his Ministry will continue to work closely with the construction company to deliver quality work.

On his own part, the Member Representing Nnewi North Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor commended the Governor for his proactive steps in ensuring that the gully erosion was reclaimed.

According to him, the ongoing work at the erosion site has brought an end to the trauma, uncertainty, and loss properties occasioned by the devastating effects of the erosion site.

He stated that the 100-Foot Road erosion control project is the first project he fought vehemently to attract for Nnewi immediately he was sworn in the State Assembly.

Governor Obiano acknowledged the efforts of other stakeholders like Hon. Afam Mbanefo, Hon. Melie Onyejepu, Hon. Amala Anazodo, Hon. Chukwudi Orizu and a host of other Nnewi stakeholders who must have reached out to the Governor as the erosion was dealing its devastating blow on the area.

Thanking the Governor on behalf of Nnewi, he promised that the community will continue to cooperate with the Infrastructure Development Company (IDC), to ensure the completion of the project.

The Erosion site in 50% completion

Other who were present during the visit includes; the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Engr. Prince Chukwudi Orizu, the Commissioner for Youths and Creative Economy, Hon. Afam Mbanefo, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Budget Monitoring and Efficiency, Hon. Sir Ogbuefi Melie Onyejepu.
