As the date for English Premieir League draws near, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes playmaker Bruno Fernandes and record signing Paul Pogba can form a strong midfield partnership when the Premier League season resumes following the Covid-19 disruption.

The 25-year-old Fernandes, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in January, registered three goals and four assists in nine matches, adding creativity to the team with Pogba out of action due to a foot injury.

Pogba, restricted to eight appearances in all competitions this season, was primed to return before the campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak and Solskjaer said the Frenchman and Fernandes can thrive.

“Good players can always play together, so definitely they can… it’s a big yes,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“I’ve got Scott (McTominay), Fred, Nemanja (Matic). There are many games coming up. I’m sure we can find a good connection between them. We’ve been discussing that as a coaching team and we’re looking forward to it.

Anaedoonline.com reported that former Man Utd captain Bryan Robson has been talking about a vital Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that came midway through the Premier League season.

Bryan Robson believes it was a good move by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to hand the Manchester United captaincy to Harry Maguire earlier this season.

United needed a new club captain in January when Ashley Young sealed a transfer to Inter Milan, bringing to an end his nine-year stay at Old Trafford.

And although Maguire was still in his debut campaign at Old Trafford, having signed for an £80million fee from Leicester last summer, Solskjaer had no hesitation in handing the centre-back the armband.

The decision has borne fruit, with United enjoying a solid spell of form in February and March – before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic – and Maguire impressive on an individual level too.

“I thought it was deserved,” said former United skipper Robson on the UTD Podcast.
