Dr. Mohammad Sunusi revealed that the football federation will wait for FIFA or CAF before making any pronouncement on football activities amid covid19.

“On the issue of football activities returning, we cannot do anything until the COVID-19 lockdown is totally removed, and we will also be waiting for new calendar for activities from CAF and FIFA.

“We have the plan to finish the season, but if it extends; then we will have to employ other options in order to conclude the season,” Sanusi said.

It would be recalled that Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), Shehu Dikko has reiterated that the decision reached at a meeting with Club Owners still stand and “we will continue to liaise with the NFF, the Sports Ministry and relevant government agencies working on the COVID 19 pandemic for advice on when it is safe for football to return”.

Recall that the issue of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) restarting after it was suspended at Week 25 had become a huge debate with some opinion leaders saying the league should end with current leaders, Plateau United, being declared champions as it has happened in France and a couple of other countries.

Anaedoonline.com reported that Football activities were suspended last month, following the spread of the pandemic to the West African country.

President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has revealed the body is consulting with the government on the resumption of football.

Football activities were suspended in March including the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) following the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The government imposed a total lockdown on Abuja, Lagos and Ogun in an effort to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The virus has claimed 51 lives in Nigeria while 1,728 cases have been confirmed.

The government has, however, announced plans to ease restrictions in the three states from May 4 and Pinnick has revealed the federation is in discussion with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to determine when football activities will resume.
