Transport Ministry To Launch Automated Vehicular Inspection

The Ministry of transport in Imo State State has declared her readiness to begin automated Vehicle Inspection and the issuance of vehicular road worthiness certificate.

According to the Ministry of Transport in a statement signed by Mr Ebere Uzokwa, Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Transport who indicated that the move would ensure safety in the sector and the state.

The new move followed a presentation made by Temple SYC Investment Group tagged “Changing The Face Of Transport” at the Ministry of Transport office at the State Secretariat, Port harcourt road, Owerri.

The Commissioner of Transport, Barr. Rex Anunobi while speaking maintained that the Ministry is determined to “end proxy vehicle inspection and manual road worthiness issuance as such practice has failed to guarantee safety, efficiency and transparency in revenue collection”.

Anunobi quipped that the project is “designed and anchored on Private, Public, Partnership (PPP) and at no cost to the government. “This will sanitize the transport sector, save lives and reduce accidents on the road, create jobs, increase revenue by blocking leakages as well as give the Ministry of Transport a new face”.

He went further stating that the success recorded by the “Automated Vehicle Inspection in some states like Lagos, Anambra, Rivers and FCT moved his Ministry to initiate plans to ensure that Imo keys into an automated system to transform the transport sector as envisioned by Gov. Hope Uzodinma under the Shared Prosperity Agenda of his administration”.

The Business Development Manager of the Company, Mrs. Chinwe Uwaegbute,in her presentation earlier said that “vehicle inspection by proxy carried out by Vehicle Inspection Officers (V.I.O) defeats the essence of vehicle inspection which primarily is to guarantee safety and reduce road accidents”.

According to her,the company will put in place the Testing Centers and install equipment under a PPP arrangement and at no cost to the State government, employ and train staff for the centres.

The initiative according to her would see the State government with an improved revenue potentials from vehicle inspection and issuance of road worthiness certificate and record better seamless operation in the sector.
