The Struggle Of A Nigerian Single Girl

As a woman trying to shatter the glass ceilings in Nigeria or that doesn’t see life like an average Nigerian woman (precisely like our mothers and grandmothers), you have to be ready to accept that you might “never get married”.

From my experience as a young woman growing up in Nigeria, it’s almost a norm to get threats about not finding a husband whenever you try to stand up for yourself, have strong opinions, want much more from life or when you desire to become much more than an average Nigerian Jane Doe.

Below are some of the things that would disqualify you from finding a husband in Nigeria.

You want to actively pursue a political career? Their response – you will sleep with all the politicians because no one will appoint you without sleeping with you Nah, no husband for you, you will become too powerful and will not submit, plus the plenty politicians that will fuvk you join.

You want to pursue your Ph.D.? You want to be raising shoulders with your husband because of too much education.

You want to travel out for greener pastures? Just Kuku say you want to go and do ashawo

You want to buy a car because you can afford it and because it’s less stressful? You are not humble, men will run away from you, no husband for arrogant car-driving women.

You aspire to become the MD of your organization? Your house girl will snatch your husband o, no one wants a woman that will be bigger than him.

You don’t have time to cook, would rather outsource it or get a cook- you are not a real woman at all and of course, no man will marry you.

Advice! A Must Read For Every Young Nigerian Man(Opens in a new browser tab)

Someone calls you ashawo and you returned the gesture- You don’t know how to stoop to conquer, no man will marry you.

You aspire to be a billionaire? Are you okay, it’s like you want to die single.

You don’t believe in submission- the worst sin of them all, no husband sam sam, in fact, you’re a lesbian, no man wants to marry a fellow man.

Well, I have already accepted that I might never get married (my material is only 0.2 yards) because I’m sure I’m going to do/doing, some or all of those things listed above.

So when the time comes, if I don’t see someone I would want to marry, I might adopt two babies or birth them if I have time…this life is not that hard oo, we are the ones making it difficult.
By the year 2090 many of us would have been long dead and probably forgotten too.

So refrain from telling me that nobody will marry me…that’s cool, I have already accepted that and I’m not shaking.
