Does it ever worry us that history which neither personal wealth nor power can pre-empt will pass terrible judgement on us and proclaim anathema on our names after we have accomplished our betrayal and have passed on.

We have lost the 20th century, are we bent on seeing our children loose the 21st.
Chinua Achebe.

The above quote from Achebe’s best selling book- ‘The Trouble With Nigeria’ was written in the 80’s. I was born in the 80’s and every of our youths today below 40yrs of age were born in the 80’s and 90’s. Now take a look at Chinua Achebe’s quote again, specifically in the 2nd paragraph- “We have lost the 20th century, are we bent on to see our children looses the 21st”.

Reason this- we were the children Achebe was talking about and it was our future that was his concern. He was blaming the then leaders, our fathers that history will pass terrible judgement on them after they has accomplished their betrayal of bad leadership.

The opening chapter of the book- The Trouble With Nigeria has Achebe lamenting that “The trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely a failure of leadership. There is nothing basically wrong with the Nigerian character. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian land or climate or water or air or anything else. The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of its leaders to rise to the responsibility, to the challenge of personal example with are the hallmarks of true leadership”.

Interestingly, when Achebe wrote the book he was trying to protect our future, Buhari was the President, today Buhari is still our President and Nigeria has not gotten better. The question now is “Are we bent on allowing our Fathers lead us astray in this 21st century”. God forbid.

The lepers in the book, Hopes of Living Dead by Prof Ola Rotimi said “if the society will not do anything to change their situation that they with their circumstances and inequalities will rise up and effect a change”.

My fellow youths, our political destiny is in our hands. We have blamed and criticized the government enough. I have good news for us;

We are the government we have been waiting for.

We are the change we have been clamoring for.

Our destiny is in our hands. It is time we rise up to effect a change. It is time we mobilize our selves and bring out our best hands, our first eleven, and encourage them to seek the highest political office both in the state and in the country.

For Anambra 2021, A youth should emerge as the Governor. Our best hands should present themselves for this venture. We should stop celebrating mediocrity and take the bold step. We’re good for the number one seat also and not just being placed as SSA’s and EA’s.

If over 60-70% of the voting population is between 18-45 years, then it is time we mobilize ourselves and elect a youth as the leader. We’re starting it with Anambra State and it shall be a loud statement.

This is a new beginning and a new order. We can do great things. A New Nigeria Is Possible.
