Multiple award-winning Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’Banj is facing a lot of social media backlash after a lady accused him of raping her.

A lady identified as Seyitan Babatayo accused the entertainer of raping her at a hotel in December 2018.

Initially, it was Seyitan’s friend, Benjamin Ese who narrated the story of the alleged rape in a Twitter thread in early June before Seyitan herself came out some weeks later to identify herself as the lady in the story.

The story had it that D’Banj had offered Seyitan some money to spend the night which she rejected but then the singer later surprisingly showed up in her room around 2am where he raped her.

“D’Banj drove all the way from Eko hotel where he was lodged and came down to glee hotel in Victoria Island at midnight 2.40 am and collected the spare key from the receptionist,” Ese said.

Adding that D’Banj allegedly “got into my friend’s room and forcefully threatened he would walk her out of the room naked, kept his fingers in her vagina, and repeatedly raped her.”

The allegation has been generating lots of reactions on Twitter and other social media platforms since it was revealed.

However, D’banj himself has denied the allegation and has slammed a N100m court case on the lady plus a public apology demand.

D’banj Reveals How Rape Allegation Affected Him, Threatens Legal Action

D’banj was later accused of kidnaping the lady and forcing her to recant her statement, sparking more outrage on the social media.

Amidst the saga, someone identified as E.Popoola has started a petition on change.org calling for the United Nations and other organizations to strip D’Banj of his endorsement and ambassadorial deals.

The deal which has already been signed by close to 15,000 persons as at press time on Friday is urging the organizations to end their commercial relationship with him and stand in support of victims of sexual violence.

The petition read in part, “We call on the United Nations, and United Nations Women Africa organizations to remove Nigerian artiste Mr Dapo Oyebanjo as a youth ambassador and distance themselves from his actions following the sponsored kidnap of Seyitan who accused D’Banj of rape and sexual assault which happened in 2018.

D’Banj Gets First Nollywood Role In ‘Sugar Rushions and United Nations Women Africa as an entity committed to the empowerment of women should not be seen to associate themselves with alleged rapists, abusers, and kidnappers.

“We ask the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa to support and lend their influence in helping Seyitan get justice for the abuse she endured in 2018 and the harassment and bullying in the past weeks.”

Meanwhile, reports have revealed the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a probe into the allegations of rape levelled against D’Banj.
