Nigeria is a country blessed with different human and natural resources. It is so unfortunate that as beautiful as the resources that are in Nigeria, the country’s mainstay is just that of crude oil, as too much attention is not paid to others. In the other vein, Tourism has suffered a big blow as that sector is nowhere near any successive government plan.

Countries like Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda, just to mention a few now feast on tourism gains that has since helped those nations generate great forex as visitors throng in. Also, the insecurity problem in Nigeria has made great tourist sites like Yankari Games reserve and the other beauties located in the North to remain partially obsolete.

In the east, the few tourist sites that should attract different foreign nationals are not in good shape. From the Ogbunike Cave to Oguta lake, to the War Museum in Umuahia and others, there has been relatively no forex gain as governments of the states have not modernized the standards of those sites. There’s also little or nothing about the beautiful Azumini rivers, the only blue river in Nigeria. The river is located in Ukwa East, LGA of Abia state and serves as a border town to Akwa Ibom state.

The river, in its aquatic splendor, has not witnessed lots of visits and it’s popularity exists only on travel websites and random google search but not to tourists or travelers. The river is crystal clear and has abundant sand beaches, adding a canoe ride on the river would be a pleasure. Abia state is however still engrossed in taxing the Ariaria market and waiting for FG’s FAAC while abandoning a potential gold mine. The blue river is also said to be a natural swimming pool because of its natural ‘blue’ colour. You could see what’s inside the river because of its crystal clear nature.

If the Abia state government or the federal government invest more on tourism, sites like the Azumini Blue River will attract thousands or even millions of visitors annually, it will help add forex to the nation’s economy and also create jobs direct and indirect jobs in those locations
