The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will on July 7, 2020, inaugurate its national campaign council for the 2020 Edo State Governorship election.

Anaedoonline.com reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled September 19 for the gubernatorial election.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP disclosed that most members of the council participate via Zoom.

The statement read, “The Peoples Democratic Party will, on Tuesday, inaugurate its National Campaign Council for the Edo state governorship election with the larger members of the committee participating on Zoom.

“This is in compliance with COVID-19 protocol on social and physical distancing at public gatherings.

“However, the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the Secretary of the Campaign Council will be physically present for the event slated for Tuesday at 1pm, alongside the National Chairman of our party, the governors of our party, members of the National Working Committee, as well as Board of Trustees, members who are also members of the campaign council and are available in Abuja.

“Also, the members of the Campaign Council, who are currently in Abuja, are also expected at the venue of the inauguration.

“Members of the campaign council, who will not physically participate at the inauguration, are directed to register in advance for participation via Zoom by clicking on the link that has been communicated to them accordingly.”

Anaedoonline.com reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was appointed to lead the campaign council alongside Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State who would act as his deputy.

Other members of the council include: Former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo; Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Seyi Makinde, Ben Ayade, Ikezie Ikpeazu, David Umahi, Duoye Diri, Udom Emmanuel, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, Bello Matawalle, Aminu Tambuwal; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, amongst others.
