Hon. Melie Onyejepu

The man Melie Onyejepu, the Managing Director of Anambra state Bureau of Procurement is an inspiration to many. He has over the years, worked his cut, and earned himself respect and admiration. One thing that is unknown to the public is his background, family, and early life.

This article gives a sneak-peek into Hon. Melie Onyejepu’s life, growing up, and parental background.

Melie Onyejepu was born into a family of 5, he is the eldest, he has 2 other brothers, a sister, and a late brother who was a DENGRAMITE studying medicine at the University of Nigeria before an accident claimed his life in 1993. Such an irreparable loss due to bad roads and recklessness formed one of the reasons why melie is passionate about good governance and protection of lives and properties.

Melie was born into a civil service home, his father was a civil servant while his mother was a teacher now retired. This contributed to a great percentage of his discipline lifestyle, people who have worked with Hon. Melie attests that he is disciplined, keeps to time, organizes his books, attends to tasks, never forgets an appointment, and keeps to his word. Being raised by disciplinarians contributed a large percentage to the man we have today.

Being raised in such a home afforded him an early direction in life from his parents that education is the key to a brighter world, right from time, they guided his thought and thinking towards education.

He grew up in Ihiala, but started his life in Ogidi and constantly moved. A large part of his growing up was in Anambra state and he has followed the state’s politics, economy, and business since he was a child. His father is late but his mother is still strong.

He attended primary school at Idemili, then Odo Ata central school in Ihiala. He started his secondary school in one of the best schools in Anambra at the time- Okija Grammar school Okija, after class 2, he left for federal government college Benue state. This switch was caused by the craving for quality education. Okija Grammar school at the time was standard but more needed to be done. As a person, this informed Melie Onyejepu’s passion for quality education because of its many benefits. He has seen the good and the better sides of education and knows what should be done to improve it.

His tertiary education was at the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he studied microbiology, his father has always had a knack for science-related courses, however after his first degree he decided banking offered him satisfaction and delved into it.

He further studied MBA at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, holds a master’s in Economics- Imo state university and surprising is that he Dropped out of Unilag for some reason that would be revealed in our next article detailing his life as a banker and why he chose banking.
