Operatives of Enugu State zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 14 suspected internet fraudsters in Awka, Anambra State. The suspects who are between the ages of 21 – 28 years were nabbed at Okpuno Awka, Agu Awka, and Ngozika estate on Monday, August 31.

 

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it has paid $5.9 million to 197 beneficiaries of its foreign scholarship programme. Charles Odili, the NDDC director of corporate affairs, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. The confirmation of payment comes three weeks after the scholars hit the streets of UK to protest non-payment of their tuition fees, after which President Muhammadu Buhari had issued a one-week ultimatum to the commission to pay the scholarship beneficiaries.

 

Orji Kalu, senate chief whip, says he would not hesitate to serve as Nigeria’s president if given the opportunity by the electorate. Kalu made the remark in Minna during a private visit to two former leaders of the country — Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar. The former governor of Abia state said there was no zoning in the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that any person in the party can contest for the position of the president.

 

The Calabar branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has claimed that some vice-chancellors (VCs) of public universities now manipulate appointment processes. Aniekan Brown, chairman of the zone, was speaking about appointments and promotions at a press briefing in Uyo on Monday, where he accused public university administrators of rigging the processes.

 

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shetima, has rejected the agitation for the zoning of the number one position. In what Police investigators are calling a murder-suicide, a family of four, two teenagers and two adults have been found dead at their Ohio home. The four bodies were found at the scene in Shaker Heights, Cleaveland, OH, according to Shaker Heights Police after they were called to a welfare check at the request of a family member at about 2.20pm on Sunday, August 30th.

 

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, was on Tuesday involved in a car crash. The accident left two policemen attached to Oshiomhole’s convoy dead. The crash happened when an articulated vehicle lost control and ran into Oshiomhole’s convoy near Oluku junction in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

 

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has warned against tribal sentiments in deciding candidates for the 2023 presidential election. Uzodinma said presidential candidates should come on the basis of party system and not tribal basis. The governor stated this while addressing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
