EPL: Vardy Set New Record After Scoring Hat-trick Against Man City

Jamie Vardy has set a new record after Leicester City thrashed Premier League contenders Man City by 5-2 at the Etihad.

The England striker has now surpassed Barcelona’s Lionel Messi by becoming the first player to score against a hat-trick twice against a Pep Guardiola’s side.

Vardy had previously netted three goals against City during the 2016 season when the Foxes defeated Sky Blues side by 4-2 at the King Power Stadium.

That same season, Messi scored a hat-trick against Guardiola’s men in their 4-0 Champions League win at the Camp Nou.

Also, no Guardiola’s side has ever conceded five goals in a match and it is the first time the Spanish gaffer has lost a home game with that margin.

After the game Vardy told Sky Sports: “We have set up to infuriate them and it has worked a treat. “We knew if we stuck to our plan we would get some chances. I always want to improve. I am hoping I am doing that.” He added to BBC Sport

“It was a great result. We tweaked it tactically today and knowing when we got the ball and played through their press we would get a few chances and we stuck them all away.

“We just had to keep believing. The main thing was getting the three points and we have done that with a great performance. “It’s only the start though, we have to keep going and show that consistently.

“It’s only a start. The way we finished last season was not good enough so we have to keep it going now.”
